Surfing In Barbados (The Run Down) Jun. 12, 2007

This passed year the waves in Barbados have been better that usual we have had the south east swells pushing for a while. Right now on the 8th of June 8, 2007 the south is still breaking which is great for us and I am sure everyone is wandering when will it stop and we can finally get some work done.

Yes I am sure everyone has used up there fair share of sick days along with national holidays and the summer is looking even better.

This hurricane season is supposed to be very active one. When the surf on the south slows down I know the waves at soup bowl on the east coast will be pumping and then we will be forced to take holidays if we still have our jobs.

In Barbados we have a small hard core group of surfers that will rival anywhere in the world, we don’t get shots taken hardly ever, we are not documented or filmed we have about 3 surf shops on the whole island but we just love surfing. There is no industry, sponsers or any of that just pure love of the ocean which surrounds us.

The warm sun, crystal turquoise ocean, white sand beaches and pealing waves is all we have what more can you ask for, we are truly blessed to be borne on such a waterman’s paradise.

The reggae vibe culture is carried through out the island, the people of Barbados are so friendly that quite often people are unsure and are like” what do you want from me for being so nice” but it is just the way of our people good vibes all around.

Barbados is an extraordinarily safe place for surfing and localism is not really and issue in the lineup, it is like you give what you get. Show respect to the locals and some of them are white if you didn’t realize and you could get more waves than you could imagine.

I hope you have found this info useful while planning your next surf trip to the Caribbean.

May swells come you way and the wind be off shore in you journeys

Kind regards
Barry Banfield
